Back to School

It is hard to believe that our children and grandchildren are back in school. Where did the summer go?
As I walked through the store I was drawn to all the beautiful fall paper that is in from SEI. I can’t wait to get crafting. We carry most supplies on Classroom School Supply lists.  Our prices are right on the money!
Have you tried the Martha Stewart score board? If not it is worth the price. The one thing to watch out for is the pressure you use, especially on thinner paper, we put a few cuts down instead of just a crease. Most of the cuts appeared at the top where you start the crease.

Diane Wiggins

Anyone can do this, asserts Diane Wiggins regarding her favorite pastime. It doesn’t require artistic ability, an elaborate art studio, computer software, or even a computer. Yet, upon viewing the greeting cards Wiggins hand-fashions in her Eagle Point home, observers marvel at the results–intricate beauty and professionalism that rivals Hallmark’s finest.

To employ her skill, Wiggins redefines the expression, “rubber stamp.” A simple image—either of rubber or pliable acrylic—glued onto a wooden or solid acrylic block, forms the foundation on which she builds. She applies ink, then stamps the basic design pattern onto card stock. Utilizing individual touches, she may add special or 3-dimensional effects. These might be produced through crimper tools, jewel-simulating metallic brads, colorful paints, and markers.

“I liked this so much, I wanted to get others to enjoy it too,” Wiggins said of the craft she embarked upon circa 1998. “There’s something about creating a card, and having somebody receive and enjoy it, that evokes a person’s ‘inner child.’”

Over a decade ago, at the behest of a craft store proprietor in Southern California, she started teaching card making to their other customers. Wiggins has since provided instruction in central California, Hawaii, and Oregon, as well. An Oregonian for almost four years now, she taught at Scrapbook King, her part-time employer in Medford, from 2007 until they closed in September of 2009.

Currently she teaches hands-on courses of 2½ hours’ duration, either in her local residence, or at Scrappy Crafts in Phoenix., Oregon. Just in time for Holiday card exchanging, her next three classes take place on November 11 from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.; also Nov. 12 and 13 from 12:30 to 3 p.m. For later shoppers, she’ll offer a class on December 4, called “Quick and Easy Christmas Cards.”

Institute, and Cal State Northridge, she remains confident that her instruction content proves surprisingly easy to master. Wiggins supplies materials including card stock, and envelopes. “All I ask them to bring is double-sided tape and scissors, to any of these enjoyable classes priced at just $15 each,” she says. They’re meant for groups of six to eight adults, but she would include participants as young as 13 years.

For more details, or to register, please phone Wiggins at (541) 826-8984.

Penny Black Stamps

Have you seen the latest designs by Penny Black. We found the tattered angels really added to the color and gave depth to the card. The board makers for Penny Black used the Spellbinders mega rectangle die, and it really made the cards pop. Make your cards a statement too with easy steps.

We just got back from the workshops put on by Wilton (EK Success, K& company, Inkadinkado, and Martha Stewart)in Las Vegas.  We are excited about the new ink stamp pads by Inkadinkado.  They seem to have a high pigment load and the colors are fabulous, and a real plus they click together and don’t fall apart, so the ink does not dry out.  The new Punches from EK success and Martha Stewart are wonderful and easy to use.  The boarders are a must for every crafter, the card maker, scrapper, and just making the cookies for the school bake sale look fabulous.   As consumers we are overwhelmed by product.  Some product for me can be a stretch when it comes to need and use, these punches are special.  We are excited about the upcoming card classes, so keep watch on the calender.

Is it Fall?

OMG have you seen the new Kaisercraft holiday trees.  We were blown away by the stand up trees.  Made out of MDF board (Wood) they are absolutely beautiful.  Everyone is fighting over who get to make it up for display.  So stay tuned, when we get it done we will be posting it.  Also the sock wreath and the holly wreath are true keepsakes.

Have you tried the new StazOn Metallics?  They are fabulous.  We find the color intense and work well on non-porous surfaces.  If you are making holiday gifts, give it a try.

Norm’s Water Color Classes

We have been very busy at the store. Our classroom has been busy with watercolor classes by Norm Rossignol, with both beginners and intermediate watercolor students. We are happy that Norm has added a drawing, and pastel class to his line up. Summer, as always, has been coming up with some beautiful jewelry ideas for the jewelry class. be sure to check the blog soon for pictures of her creations.

We are so excited the Corinne Stubson is coming back for a bees wax collage class. These fill up fast, and are so much fun and educational. We have some holiday card classes, check the dates on our web page. The new holiday papers are in and are gorgeous.

My favorite paper is “Delilah” by BoBunny. Maybe it is the name? Or maybe it is because they are beautiful. We also have all the new Tim Holtz distress Stickels and crackle paints in. FUN FUN FUN.

Karen Foster came up with “a dozen delights holiday gift set,” designed for personalized gift giving such as the 12 days of Christmas, Christmas star, Hanukkah star of David, or your own creation. the triangle boxes arrived just in time to decorate for the holidays. We are having a class and will be showing all the ideas soon. Flower-Soft is taking over. We have had so many people tell us this is one of the best new products. Great for card making, page creations, and holiday wonders. Keep watching. If you find something fabulous, share it with us. If you have ideas bring them on. The more the better.
